Serious: Has this ever happened to you ?

Ok.. about 3.5 weeks ago, i was in a minor altercation (details not important) and screwed up my knuckles pretty bad.

The middle finger knuckle is about 3x's the size of any other knuckle on my hand. I have had this X-Rayed 2x's now (about 2 weeks apart) and both times showed absolutely NO fracture in the bone.

The problem is, it is STILL just as swollen as day one and sore as HELL. It has gotten worse to the point where i can not curve my fingers upwards, and i can not close my fingers to make a fist.

Has this ever happened to anyone else, and if so, what was the problem ?

    SOS !

Stupid question but is it possible the "altercation" gave you a sprain in your joints?

My other reply/response would be "that my dear is your body not letting you forget that fighting (altercations whatever) is a bad bad idea"

Hmm, I usually don't altercate. I am much more of a lover

The doctor said something about getting a bone-scan done (which is going to cost me an arm and a leg) to reveal any possible hairline stress fractures. I may have to resort to that.

Just hoping that some of my good fellow GFY'ers might have any ideas before I go blowing mega-cash on some bullshit test.

How about tape it onto a finger splint so that you can not flex or bend it for a few days. Allow the swelling to go down and the injury to correct itself without re-aggravating it by moving it around. I am pretty sure this would solve it.

I actually had it in a splint wrapped in Ace bandage (this is what the doctor recommended) for a little over a week, kept it elevated as much as possible, and iced it on occassion. Still no luck.

PS.. I am right handed, and I damaged the right hand, you could imagine how bad it sucked ASS using my Optical Explored mouse with a brace on

If that is the case I would think then that you either bruised or tore your cartilage. Neither of which shows up on an X-ray.

Does it every go down when you take an anti inflammatory drug?

Much swelling around the joints, and the top of my hand is sore to the touch almost down to my wrist.

Supposedly Naproxen is better than Advil, same concept tho

I can tell you that last year after fracturing my ankle in 3 places playing basketball, the swelling went down after about a week with ice and keeping it elevated. I hope it's not anything too serious, but definitely try to ice it for about 15-20 minutes every 4-6 hours and see if that helps. That was what they had me do with my ankle so it may help with your hand too.
