My new oceanview condo in Puerto Rico (pics)

After weeks of "suffering" at a beachfront hotel on the west coast of PR, I decided to move to the east coast near San Juan...It's a gated community and on a clear day, I can see the Virgin Islands from my window...This part of PR is very close to the VI because I can get some of their radio stations clearly..

3 bedroom 2 bath fully furnished spot..

Living Room/Dining area

Kitchen...It's small but I can deal with it for now

The couch, that I never sit on since I'm online most of the time when I'm home.

The Balcony...I now have a small grill out there to grill my fish.

The view from my Balcony...

I grilled this ParrotFish (cotorro) myself on the balcony

My fishing pier

Looking the other way from the pier towards my condo that is set in those hills

Thanks man...Yeah Daddy Yankee is very popular here...but I'm not familiar enough with the music to know the specific songs he sings here...His picture is even on the Pepsi cans around here.

Let me ask you. i've been to costa rica, brasil, mexico(the nice parts), and thought of moving to all of these places so far. what is the benefit of puerto rico over the other countries. how does pusrto rico being a us territory really affect your life and add advantage?

Puerto rican residents don't pay federal income tax...and their local tax collection system is inept.

I don't have to get my ex-wife's permission to bring my kids over here like I would have to do in Costa rica or any foreign country...Flying to PR is just like flying to Iowa..It's still considered a "Domestic" flight.

San Juan's airport is a "hub" so I can get good flight rates to any other country in the caribbean or in central/south america.

I didn't have to change my cellphone number since it works down here.

I like being able to put a 39cent stamp on my mail and KNOWING it will get to it's destination and I don't have to worry about shit getting "lost" if it's sent to me.

The roads are much better than other countries...There are highways here just as good as in the US.

I like being able to go to Walgreens and Walmart and Sizzler and Church's Chicken, etc. like I did in the states..

Nobody from the states needs a passport or visa to visit here or get back home...Cause I KNOW that my parents won't bother ever getting a passport.

Where I live, crime is low to nonexistent...I don't have to worry about a bunch of poor natives who are secretely plotting to stab me and take my money..Where I live in PR, everybody eats well...Especially since I live next door to a resort.

But the main two reasons is the tax advantage and the child travel advantage....If I didn't have kids, I would have moved to Costa Rica or Panama or even Guyana...But I don't want anything stupid happening to my kids over there...It won't happen here.

wow. so you put alot of research into this. the tax thing is good for me strictly because i don't want to support this fucked up government anymore and my main motive is i hate having to pay taxes for shit i dont support. i love latin women and the latin culture more than i do american culture. costa rica almost had me hooked for good, still contemplating it actually.

yeah im 90% costa rica. i got no bills here, just makin and bankin money, no responsibilities here in the states. costa rica looks more like the option. Escazu is calling my name. its right in san jose and has lots of americans to hang with, then the beaches are not that far away and its very very cheap to get rooms in the off season if you even want to stay for a week for a few 100.

if you're still an american citizen I think you'd be required to pay the US federal taxes regardless of where you live, wouldn't you?

Puertoricans are american citizens..They're just "state" residents of Puerto Rico...It would be the same thing if I moved to Nevada...After a year, you can claim residency of that state for in-state tuition purposes, etc...Same with Puerto Rico except when you become a puerto rican "resident", you don't pay federal income tax.

By Law American Citizens no matter where they are in the world, or where they are obtaining the money must declare any money they bring in. You must also pay federal income taxes on any money obtained while overseas.
