When did review sites start requiring linkbacks?

It's been a long time since I've looked at any review sites, and I was checking some out today and noticed quite a few of them require a reciprocal link in order to get reviewed.

I don't want to ruffle any feathers here but why would someone want to put a traffic leak on their paysite?

Do they want the link from the actual paysite itself? Or just something in the resources section of the affiliate program?

The submit pages didn't give alot of info about this, so I thought I'd ask some people here before I waste my time submitting to all of them.

The ones that I've seen like that I thought were smaller? Or maybe they only mean if you don't have an affiliate program? I'm not sure... as long as they can sign up as an affiliate and earn money from your sites, that should be considered the repayment instead of traffic... I would think.

Yeah that's what I was thinking, but like I said I wanted to be sure before I spend hours filling out submit forms, only to be declined for not having a recip.

Maybe the recip is for the girls who run their own sites from home and don't have a revshare program.

BTW, this would be a good place to let me know if you have a review site that could use a quality submission.

The only sites I really know about are thebestporn.com and rabbitsreviews.com, and the sites they link to from their links page.

traffic leak? why don't you have 2 tours, one for affiliates, one for internal?

I usually have my splash page up on the root, and that is for internal, that way I can put links up for any sites that require links back, but all affiliate traffic goes to something like /t2/ or the tour I set up specifically for affiliates to send traffic to

Well Jace why would I want review traffic on my personal tour let alone traffic leaks. Specially if someone like me who generates the majority of traffic for his site.

Perhaps maybe a 3rd tour, one just for those sites that one recips. Though odds are they would want linking code to skip past that page and thus making them moot or lower my score for the links.

Seriously why should an affiliate who is getting paid also get a link on our paysite? They are being paid for their traffic. As it stands affiliates often get just about everything else under the sun for free or done for them. Free hosting, free content, free memberships for reviewing, free design services, free hosted galleries, free creative, insane payouts, higher payouts due to lower dollar value, custom videos, fan signs, tube clips, free epass accounts, and the list goes on.

I have just always had two tours for each version of the tour, one for affiliates that always stays the same with no leaks or links off site, and one for myself that I can put whatever I want on, for link exchanges, etc

I have never run across any review sites that require a link back, but I do use my non-affiliate tour for links, so I can show surfers that i got good reviews, so review sites are actually on the non-affiliate tour by my own choice for assurance that I run solid sites with good reviews

as for "Free hosting, free content, free memberships for reviewing, free design services, free hosted galleries, free creative, insane payouts, higher payouts due to lower dollar value, custom videos, fan signs, tube clips, free epass accounts, and the list goes on."....i don't give half that shit away, I am of the school that teaches affiliates to be creative and how to be profitable without needing everything under the sun in order to survive
