I get why you are frustrated with promises.
I also know how hard it can be to manually pay webmasters for life. When old users sign up again under new accounts, with new cards, with type in's, it's hard to track. The reason some can't do it is that they would have to take into account the users with expiring credit cards, and the users who max out their cards and add additional credit cards. It takes a whole lot of deligence, and even a greater amount of honesty.
My background was in the billing world, and I know who can walk the talk.
