The team around Pierce before this year was more than just laughable, it was insanely bad. Ainge realized if he didn't do something quick his ass would get fired. He did manage to get Allen and Garnett for practically nothing.... But the Lakers got Gasol for absolutely nothing
Quit comparing ANYBODY to Jordan, Kobe has proven he's nothing compared to Jordan so the discussion is dead for another year at least.
Pierce is a different type of player. He doesn't have any of those jaw dropping hanging in the air changing direction insane shots that Jordan had and Kobe has proven to be capable of. Pierce steps up when he's needed and doesn't choke like Kobe. Pierce is a competitor and has plenty of heart. Can't compare him to Jordan at all though unless its only about coming up big in the finals.
Kobe can't do anything without a dominant big man. Jordan NEVER had a good big man. Jordan scored his points during those last 3 championships playing 4 on 5 since Rodman wasn't a scoring threat at ALL and got his few points on put backs which enabled the D to key in on Jordan and he still killed them. Jordan and Shaq are the only guys I've seen handle double or triple teams on a regular basis.
I'm 25 so my sports watching memory goes back to 91/92 I remember the Lions run to NFC Championship just to get ripped apart (91)
Hit some youtube for highlights of Jordans drives to the hoops, you'll find hands all over the place and in his face.... The NBA these days with the "blocking fouls" puts a player at the charity stripe too easily. The only way Jordan made it to the line was by getting knocked on his ass which happened a dozen times a game often those weren't even fouls.... You as much as shuffle your feet with Kobe in the air and he's on the line.
You get refs showing Kobe favoritism (Jordan was favored for sure) simply because the guys running the NBA order the refs to. WTF was that T on Doc when Kobe clearly fouled fighting out of that screen? you'd have to be blind not to see Kobe pushing then to have the balls to slap a T on the coach... go look up his career stats - that's the problem with fanboys of the Lakers and all teams in the West -you aren't basketball fans, you follow one team and you only follow them when times are good. Pierce has been consistently good his entire career playing for absolutly HORRIBLE teams, beyond horrible sometimes - he never got the easy entry into the NBA playing with the most dominant force in the NBA that Kobe did.

Thanks for proving my point. It's a team game. Pierce had the better team its that simple.
I wasn't putting Pierce down with that comment nor was I defending Kobe. I'm trying to point out the fact that he was the exact same player last year on one of the worst teams.
People that know nothing about basketball always try to give one player all the credit/blame.
