    Hardware?: How to transfer entire laptop contents to a new laptop HD....

    Whats the easiest way?

    Or should i just reinstall the OS and start fresh?

    I would like to preserve verything if possible and transfer from original to new ..


    Any suggestions?

          bitstream image the drive.

          Exact 1:1 copy, takes a couple hours, although tools can be a bit pricey.

            He's gonna have to get a hard drive-to-usb adapter at least, for the new drive.. and a drive copy program..

              get a usb 2/firewire external drive. transfer from one to the other and then tranfer to new laptop. or just keep the stuff you want on the external and plug into new laptop...

                  that might be easy to do unless your laptop is both the same brand. if not you might get hardware issues if you ghost the whole drive. but if only contents you can just use cross-over cable to transfer your files.
