IT'S being described as the worst sexual abuse scandal in the Israeli army's history.

As many as 35 Israeli soldiers are suspected of statutory rape of an 11-year-old girl who lived with her family on an air force base in southern Israel.
Defence lawyers say the girl, now in counselling, lied to the soldiers about her age, claiming she was older, and that the sex was consensual. Regardless, legal experts said the soldiers could still be prosecuted for statutory rape.

The case marks a new low for the military, once Israel's most revered institution, tarnished in recent years by incidents of financial corruption and sexual misconduct.

Limited details released by the military indicate at least 17 Israeli air force soldiers have been investigated, and several others are likely to be called in.

The girl lived with her family on the base where her father, a career military man, served.

The family has since left the base and the girl is under psychological care, the army said.

I have a niece who used to pass for 18 when she was 11. She was on the street hooking before the age of 12, and now here we are about 16 years later and she has abandoned her 3 children, she's a crack whore and a convincted criminal, and she's fled the province due to a warrant for her arrest.

Well I just looked up the age of consent in Israel and it's 14-16 so if you assume that the bulk of the soldiers were 18-19 and if she told them her age was 16 it might not be that far out of the norm.

I'm not condoning it, but I think it would depend on how old the girl looks and if she looked like she was about 16. I'd have a hard time believing any normal 35 soldiers would knowingly have sex with a 11 year old girl, so I'd assume they believed she was at the age of consent.

The other thing you have to look at, is how normal is it for 18-19 years old to have sex with girls that are 14-16 in that country? Is it a common thing being the age of consent is so low there?

Not that it's right, but not every country and religion in the world has the same thoughts on the matter. For example according to http://www.avert.org/aofconsent.htm Japan's age of consent is 13-18. In Italy it's 14. In Spain and South Korea it's 13.

There's a case of a girl I know who started muenstrating at age 3 and was fully grown at age 7; by the time she was 11 she was in 10th grade (brain development was extremely rapid as well)* and dating a soldier.
