at 18 any person makes decisions affecting the rest of their lives, those are very important decisions.
at 35 you are not "planning" your life anylonger, you are in the middle of it, perhaps trying to curve it one way or another but for the most part you are on course or not..
sounds to me like you want her to make decisions from a 35 yo's perspective.
