Yes, highlighting threads by keyword is a great idea. It would really help you find threads about you or your company, or just a topic you like. It's on my list! 
And sadly no, there are no plans to port this over to IE. IE is just way to nasty of a beast.
Perhaps some day in the future, maybe... but for right now, I have no plans on doing that.

Awesome. Perhaps a different color per keyword (or for all if that's too much) to help separate user highlighted posts from the keyword highlight posts.
I totally understand about IE, I figured it was a long shot.
