i think the real question is not why do so many people trust their govt, since u cant really tell what people are thinking, you can only go by their actions, why do so many people do nothing when their govt does something they dont like. and the answer is simple IMO: americans are by and large happy with their life. ie, i may not like the way the govt is heading, but really im in a good place so why would i go and ruin it...
theres no real hardship to actually have the need to do something. for the most part if you have a decent head on ur shoulders u can buy food, shelter, clothing, a car and luxuries like a nice flatscreen tv etc..
