having few of my sites listed as external links on wikipedia for high paying generic keywords (pharmaceutical mostly).. Even with wikipedia in the first results, the amount of traffic is negligeable.

People know when clicking on wikipedia's link what they'll get. So very few of them after getting the info they want (because wikipedia is quite a complete resource) pursues their learnings by going to an external source of info.
