Why are cars SO much cheaper in the US vs Canada??

The US dollar is now $1.10 Canadian but prices in the States to be MUCH lower.

    For example:

    Brand new Honda S2000
    $50,300 in Canada
    or
    $34,000 in the US

New Boxster S is $78,000 Canadian and $55,000 US dollars.

The gap is even bigger when the cars are used, they are even cheaper in the States.

WTF is the reasoning behind these price differences???

Because they haven't yet been notified that the US dollar is near par to Canadian ...

Probablly because most Canadians love being gouged senseless and only support a "free market" economy so long as it is totally uncompetitive.

            that's the real reason.

it used to make sense 2-3 years ago to send cars to the usa - you made money. now it's the reverse.

I was just looking into this. This is the deal. 15 Cents on the dollar and 15% Gst and PST thats 30% more right off the bat. Not to mention as a Canadian we are used to getting fucked over and paying too much so they grab a few more points just for being Canadian. Its shit.

Besides difference in the dollar not being reflected in the price, you also have the freight, taxes, etc. of shipping to Canada. And economics 101 - USA is a bigger market, more competition, cheaper prices.

                  Edit: Yes, and GST too....

1 more thing, Used cars are cheaper in the US just because of sure Volume. There's millions more available so the prices go down.

GST ( and PST ) is on TOP of the above mentioned sticker prices...
