I have made these toys before. ( purely for educational purposes  ) first a harvester strips forums from google using criteria to isolate default configured versions of phpbb, at best the wm might glance at the list of forum urls.
but to answer your original question , yes thats exactly the type of site and guy someone would mess with even if they did see the site and/or his pic. Why not ? most dedicated spammers are likely more nerd than jock , and he looks more jock than nerd, when else can a nerd rip on a jock than to spam the shit out of his forum knowing he can't do shit about it . kinda like jocks do to nerds in high school |
I don't think he's right in this case. The site hasn't been up for long. We don't have phpbb in the URL and have actually changed the forum URL twice within 10 days for other reasons, so it's very unlikely that it appears in databases.
I think it's more what you said after, that somebody got a kick out of fucking with these guys, because even from a real spammer's point of view the action makes little sense. Why would someone try to destroy someone else's shit, unless there was a reason, which there wasn't, unless it's a simple ego-problem?
Talking about ego, it's amusing how some of the supposedly "educated" computer geeks in here, who probably grew up in the Hamptons, with mama putting a Cleenex under their pillow every evening (in case big boy has an ejaculation) now get all upset. And brag how they'd walk in with their guns and street sweepers and kick totally strange guy's ass, who grew up in a dumpster and never had shit, besides their muscles, and being in and out of prison. Fucking funny!
