5. There was a WAR going on ( why else were they talking about it ) don't trust your enemy !

The point here is that two events need not be identical to be compared. If that were true, there could not ever be a comparison between anything.

History repeats itself all the time! Pay attention or you will be bite by it!

Still a plane, Still an attack on the US, Still surprise, Still malicious! And the comparision is also there for the Kamakaze style used in that and this situation.

3. WW II attack was NOT because of religion!

The entire WAR, WWII, was started over religion, last I checked. Yes the Japanese used this as an excuse to try and expand their empire. But in both situations I believe the future will show the biggest comparision. In Japans case, they made a huge mistake in making the biggest superpower in the world their enemy and waking the sleeping giant. I believe this incident will go to show the same thing.

4. The Japanese didn't target inocent ppl
( kids, women, civilians )

So the Hospitals didn't have any women or civilians in them? Japanese did hit those. Yes the majority was a millitary target. But I believe the statement has been made by terrorists "we do not see millitary and civilian targets as different." So in this case to them these were millitary targets.

5. There was a WAR going on ( why else were they talking about it ) don't trust your enemy !

War on Terrorism has been going on for a long time. Just because you do not see it every day don't think it is not there. That is just being Naive!

There's no black and white solution here -- there will always be people that hate Americans -- and there will always be sick people -- you can't do anything about them -- and you never will be able to. Do you think you can exterminate "the enemy"? It just won't happen. And any "example" that the US provides for the world in the form of violence won't make a fucking difference -- it will just make the terrorists more popular and more driven... The only difference it will make is that nieve Americans may have a false sense of security and pride that the "bad" guys are all dead -- and "we taught them a lesson" -- "that'll show 'em" -- "we took care of that didn't we..." That's what the media is feeding us right now -- because that's what we WANT TO HEAR. The idea that we are going to send a message to the world, "Don't fuck with the US" is totally idiotic... The fact that you are a citizen or not seems moot to me -- even if it was possible to export all non-US-citizens -- the terrorists could easily find ways to become citizens -- that won't make a difference. Why don't we just go on a witch hunt -- why don't we search everyone's home. What kind of America do you want to live in? In a world like in 1984 where even your thoughts aren't free? Do we partol the streets with machine guns making sure everyone is a "citizen"? Maybe it will come to this.

There will never be total security -- the more security you have the less freedom you have.

I was watching the news last night -- they were trying to blame some of our terrorism problems on encryption technology -- will this World Trade Center disaster just be an excuse for our government to take away our freedoms? To take from us our privacy? All under the guise of fear. It's scary to imagine it.

Which leads to a really good point -- PEOPLE THAT LIVE IN NEW YORK KNOW they are in danger of being killed -- because any terrorist or military attack will be in NY. That's just a fact. Everyone in Manhattan must know that if a bomb is ever dropped on the US or if a chemical weapon is released -- of course Manhattan will be one of the first targets.
Do you remember all of the people that were afraid to be in NY in Manhattan for possible Y2K disaster?

Our government knows this too and has prepared for it w/ shadows of all our government facilities -- why do you think all of the important data destroyed in the WTC is mirrored elsewhere -- why most of the upper management wasn't in the WTC building... and why the top execs were elsewhere. IBM has all it's important data in multiple secret locations hidden deep underground. Don't be nieve -- we knew this could happen. It's not surreal at all. I'm suprised there's not more terrorism and riots.

The world is not safe -- and there's nothing you can do about it -- so just get over it and move on. Like Eric said -- if you think you are going to be bombed -- move the hell out of there -- if you think NY or the US is too dangerous -- move somewhere else. If you are worried about your plane being hijacked -- drive, take a boat, or just sit at home and try to feel safe and wait patiently for your natural death.

I realize that this message may piss a lot of people off -- I'm not trying to argue -- I'm just throwing out ideas to discuss.

The same as putting a towel on my head does not make me a "raghead" in the racist sense of the word. Hence, the use of your term redneck in that statement is inferring a group of preconceived people (uneducated WHITE people by popular understanding) and it then becomes a racist remark.

The jokes and references to "ragheads" and "arabs" in these threads have been used in reference to and in the context of our common enemy. Terrorists. That may not have been your intention, but what I caught was a blanket statement to refer to everyone's remarks regarding the subject. Which simply cannot be done. You don't know me. With regard to the "pearl harbor = Sept 11th attack" comparison, it's not worth arguing about, similarities are glaringly obvious, and so are the differences. But as to the aftermath of both events, I think that just as the US forces retook the South Pacific island by island, hunting down and killing the fucking Japs where they hid like rats, they will again hunt down those responsible for this new attack.

Do some of you really believe that there were no civilians killed at Pearl? You say that some of us are naive, yet you delude yourselves thusly?? ha! Let me tell you I've studied many many wwII battles over the years, and LOT'S of civilians were among the dead and wounded at Pearl. LOT'S.

I believe that the U.S. will be approaching certain countries that contain known terrorists, and they will be giving those country's governments' every opportunity to assist us in bringing those terrorist factions out in the open and getting them caught and punished. The countries that give the US a hard time are going to sustain some dammage, and that is a fact. If you don't like it, tough shit for you, don't watch the news because if it happens, it's going to get messy. All your bitching and whimp-whining isn't going to change a thing.

Final point: Criminals get punished, period.
You people should have been making your plea for peace to the terrorists before this attack, not now after the dammage is done.

Just so everyone knows what page I'm on, I have a very good mentor that has dedicated his life's work to defending discrimination in a legal arena. I've counseled with him on many different occasions. So I'm not just pulling stuff outta my ass. (I also use a huge amount of common sense)

I'm able to make redneck (dumb white guy) jokes as well as arab jokes, etc... with the best of them. But that does not make me a racist. Whether some people understand that concept or not, there is a huge difference between true racism and harmless jokes. If there weren't, the world wouldn't be worth living in.

I understand that there are and always will be people who will forever be unable to distinguish between the two, and it must be a sad reality that they live in... but I can no more clear the fog from their minds than I can from nasty fuckers that want to kill innocent people.
