One film like Midnight Cowboy was rated X when it was first released, they have now even shown that movie uncut, uncensored on network television...I remember back in 1991 they did this in Los Angeles and they made a big deal because of how much things have changed.
The X rating was co-opted by the adult industry which started rating things XXX ...guess a lot of people didn't know this
