                                              we matched 5 numbers on the UK lottery (not including the bonus ball) and was 1 digit away from winning about 5 million - so we only got about 6k instead

They can afford to pay these huge jackpots every now and then because for every 1 dollar someone wins thousands of people lost. The lottery is nothing but a tax on the stupid and the poor.
