Internet IP's out of stock in 3 years!

If you thought it was hard finding the username that some other GFY user hasn't already bagged, that's nothing compared with the difficulty you'll have getting an internet connection for your computer after 2011.

As of this month 85 per cent of the 4.3 billion available Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, which identify devices connected to the net, are already in use. Within three years they will all be used up, according to a report by the OECD. "The situation is critical for the future of the internet economy," it says.

The report urges governments and businesses to upgrade from the current version, IPv4, to IPv6, which effectively has an unlimited number of IP addresses. IPv6 has been available for more than a decade but service providers have been slow to adopt it.

If the government and companies would actually start to impliment it. They keep putting off because of costs. The fact is it's going to cost A LOT more in 2011 after the shit hits the fan than if they started 5 years ago.

It's too late to change to IPv6 now. Yes, it still needs to happen, but it's not going to be in wide use when we run out of IPv4 space to allocate.

Next best thing in the meantime is for entities to renumber into smaller, more efficient allocations, hand back unused IPs, etc.

You're a reseller, right? Bump this thread when your host refuses to give you more IPs because you fail ARIN justification.

What fan are we talking about here? The USA is slow to adopt because they know if that becomes an issue, they will just begin charging everyone like crazy for additional IPs... that should reduce demand quickly and make a tidy profit at the same time! Ahhh -- capitalism at work here.. make way boys!

No we are not. We have 19 class C Ip assigned to us. If you want the 5000 IP ( more or less now ), I can make you a great deal for the lot ( mid XXK ). Like right now.

We have those IP's for quite a while. Assigned to US, not to a DC... like Rowan rightly suggested.

As for our ranking, we just opened our site a month ago or so, tough billing has not yet been " harmonized " to our look.

We do not sell SEO services, like I can make your site # 1 on google. We do not even go into debating the validity of this service. We just have it, so we offer it.

Our site is not on our IP's ( which is not a class C) . Our IP's are like:

                                          199.xx.xx.17

About 5000 of them ..... already assigned by Arin:

both of you are ignorant. simple math would tell you this is REAL problem.

ip4 can only have a maximum of 4,294,967,296 IP addresses not even 1 for each person on the planet. With Ip6 eveyone on the planet could have a trillion IP adresses and still have plenty left over.

                                                        there is a simple solution.

                                                        EUGENICS...

if we simply kill a couple billion people, wipe at a few races or nationalities. we'll be all good. no worries. lets just nuke china...
