I think its a good idea to make your content available with as high bitrates as feasible because chances are your buyers are going to convert it into many different formats themselves. The better the quality the more one has to work with in that respect.

Yes, MPEG2 is not getting much love anymore but fact is it's still a great format, especially at high bitrates. Personally I think H.264 is a bit overrated (doubters, go ahead and google stats on H 264 vs. VC 1 encoding) but because it's still gaining in popularity it might be a good option to offer your content in that format.
