I use namecheap and have never had that issue occur, I've heard about the practice though so I hope they havent stooped to that level.

I have had the same issue with other registrars. Definitely worth registering them immediately if you have any interest in using the domain, otherwise you risk losing them.

I've used namecheap a lot in the past to look for new domains and never had that happen to me.

(However, I must say that I've been moving my domains away from Namecheap for a bunch of other reasons: Their control panel is seriously buggy. If you transfer a domain away from them, they'll keep showing that domain in your namecheap account and even send you renewal reminders. If you request an EPP code, 25% of the time you get no code or a wrong code. Their whoisguard only kicks in the next day. Email forwarding is buggy as hell....)

            Pornguy,

This is definitely not coming from us or something that we condone in any way, shape or form. I posted a bout this here:

            http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=681635

A quote from me in that thread:

"I know for a fact some large ISP's are selling dns error information. I won't mention any names but that information is for sale and I have seen it myself. Regarding verisign, it is well known that ANY of their information is for sale for the right price."

            Ubob,

We have a "synchronize domain list" option when viewing your domain list that you can choose to use at any time and refresh your list and remove any transferred domains automatically.

You can also choose to set the whoisguard option during the checkout process so that it is in place immediately.

Regarding email forwarding, our forwarding works perfectly fine, the issue is blacklists and the filtering that goes on with the email address you are forwarding to. You must remember that you are sharing the same system with hundreds of thousands of other domains so if your isp or email provider chooses to filter even one domain on our network they will filter all of them. If you want a more reliable solution you need to be using popmail or similar as it cuts down that extra step in the process which means alot. I guarantee that if you google any registrar's email forwarding services you will see similar types of complaints for each and every one of them.

              Ubob,

              continued...........

This last issue also effects sent epp codes. You can request any epp codes via our help desk or live chat and after being confirmed they will be generated for you manually. We do not limit transfers away from us in any way. That's just not how we operate, not now or ever. We've always been honest and upfront about how we run our business.

This sort of stuff drives us crazy and we have nothing to gain by alienating our clients. Most people are transferring domains to us so we know how frustrating it is to get away from other registrars. We would not purposely do this to you. We do not limit transfers away from us in any way. That's just not how we operate, not now or ever. We've always been honest and upfront about how we run our business.

Ok, tried that and it works (did have to run it twice because it didn't remove all transferred domains the first time). Thing is, I've got domains at 9 different registrars (including namecheap) and namecheap is the only registrar where I've got to manually update my list when I transfer a domain. And until you mentioned the "synchronize domain list" option I didn't even know it was possible to update the list. Why not have your system automatically update the list when a domain is transfered out? (like all other registrars do)

Then that must be a recent change to your system because in the past I've on several occasions done whois lookups on domains (with whoisguard) I registered with namecheap and found that my personal info was still being used.

I was referring to the forwarding of emails sent to a whoisguard address. I can assure you that doesn't work the way it's supposed to. (and I'm having those emails forwarded to addresses with no filters whatsoever.

Ok, I'll use that in the future because that part of your control panel really doesn't work the way it should. 2 days ago I requested EPP codes for a couple domains, and for 1 of those domains your system would not give me an EPP code (tried a couple times and eventually gave up). I've had this happen more then once in the past and I've even received EPP codes that didn't work.

I never implied that Namecheap was deliberately/knowingly limiting transfers. But the the bugs/design flaws in your system/control panel resulted in the same experience and a once happy customer (who recommended namecheap in more than one GFY thread) transferring his domains away.

Which is nice, but is an indication that your registrar service is BROKEN!

At minimum, why doesn't your service do a sync check automatically every so often?

To be fair, many registrars, including Moniker, have similar sync problems.

However, there's no excuse for it because the current registrar gets a notification when one does a transfer-out, and thus registrar syncronization problems should not being occurring.

For example at eNom (at least the BulkRegister part of it) - all transfer outs are logged and viewable ... I've never ever experienced any sync problems there despite numerous transfer outs to numerous other registrars over the years.

IMHO, a registrar that doesn't even know what domains it actually possesses is best avoided. There is no excuse for frequent sync problems beyond lack of care, and lack of technical knowledge.

                              Ubob,

The whoisguard checkout option was added towards the beginning of the year.

We also had a few issues, with the WhoisGuard email forwarding a while back but from what I am aware of, those were all resolved. If you have specific issues with this could you try generating a new address via your control panel and see if it still continues? Also, try forwarding to a different email address to see if that could be the case? If not, open up a ticket and let me know the ID and we'll run some tests for you. I do know we have thousands of emails flowing through there with no issues each day otherwise we would be flooded with complaints which is not the case.

Same goes, with the epp issue, if you can give me a specific example to look at I can take a look to see If I can find an issue with it.

Regarding the domain synch feature, I'll get the developers on this right away so that it runs automatically. It shouldn't be too hard to implement so look for it soon.

If there are any other issues or suggestions by anyone here, please let me know. We are always looking to improve our services in any way possible. All suggestions and complaints are appreciated as they help us improve and in the end give our entire client base a better product.

You've been lucky, because many Moniker customers experience sync problems ... including me - just today got a renewal notice from Moniker for a domain that I transferred out ages ago.

From what I recall, Moniker has a "sync" button somewhere; publicly acknowledged having sync issues.

Glad to read the response from the NameCheap rep about them working to fix that problem.

From what I recall, Moniker has a "sync" button somewhere; publicly acknowledged having sync issues.

Glad to read the response from the NameCheap rep about them working to fix that problem.
