I thought I had one on my thigh, but it turned out to be a spider bite. It took months to heal, and in fact, there is still a mark on my leg.
One of my friends has leukemia, and she gets them in her armpits and groin a lot. She does the hot compress dealio, but I can tell it is extremely painful all along.
What you guys are talking about can be a very serious thing. Multiple boils in the armpits is a carbuncle, and it's all about Staph.
Staph infections can reoccur, and they're HIGHLY contagious. Look closely at your favorite porno actors...look on asses and pelvic areas, especially, where Staph LOVES to rear its ugly head (no pun intended).
Why do I mention porn stars?
Staph is ALL OVER THE PLACE in porno land. Shit, I even got it. And that shit will live on your body unless it's 100% dead, so be careful. Don't go thinking that boil on your leg is the last of it. Staph lives in your skin...no one's "prone" to get a staph infection; it's just that you didn't properly medicate after your boil...meaning a STRONG antibiotic for 10 days. I've even heard of 30 day regiments for particularly nasty Staphs.
And really, really watch your personal hygene more than ever while dealing with Staph.
approx 16% of people are Staph Aureus carriers, which is just skin flora for those 16%
I had one about 6 months ago about an inch above my dick in the pubic hair. I thought maybe is was a hernia (can't remember what type.) I could put my hand over it and the lump was about the size of my palm!
Went to the doctor thinking he'd send me to the hospital to get an operation and he was like "oh it's just a boil." He gave me a shot to "numb it up". That hurt like a motherfucker and then he sliced it open and proceeded to squeeze out the pus. That hurt like a MOTHERFUCKER!!! Then he put a wick in it for any more drainage that I had to take out on my own a few days later. I was afraid that was gonna be a bitch too, but I soaked in the tub for a little bit and it came right out.
Then just a couple weeks ago I had one right below my left eye that started in a lump that'd been there for a while. That one was a little less traumatic besides the location. There was a tiny piece of dry skin on it that I pulled off and it drained on it's own, including whatever made up the lump.
Both times the doc prescribed Cephalexin to help with the infection.
So yeah, if you notice a boil starting get it taken care of ASAP. They are not pleasant!
mine is gone now. that fucker was on my leg right by my knee. i thought it was a spider bite at first. damn painful fucking things. started as an ingrown hair. word of advice, you get an ingrown hair, dig that fucker out.

Funny. I had a spider bite I thought was a boil, and you had a boil you thought was a spider bite.
