We used OSCommerce on one of our sites and it led to a successful hack attempt. There's a million add-on modules for it, but be forewarned on that particular aspect...
Of course you run the same risk with Zencart, etc.

everything is vulnerable ... but open source is more at risk, mainly with the addons supplied by the community. I had one OS installed hacked, but no hack on CubeCart or Zencart ( those sites were way smaller , so that could be why ).
Safer solution is X-Cart , but you have to pay the license fee ( about $ 200.00 )I know that Asspimple is stoopid ... As he says, it is a FACT !
But I can't figure out how he can breathe or type , at the same time ....Comment

X-cart pro with the added affiliate module. will run you about 600.00; then you need a good comptetent graphic/script guy to customize the template. I use X-cart Gold for the past 4 years ... Support is so-so but the forums are quite usefull.

My client site with every mod that x-cart sells http://cn2data.com has issues in IE 8.
but hey the Russians will handle it
IMO Zen Cart is the way to go http://www.zencart.com/ they have a built in SEO optimizer for each individual parts. You can SEO part #'s for good google searches. Many techs out there find parts by googleing the part # ;)Comment

A client of mine uses oscommerce. It uses register_globals - gave a lot of hassle but its not too bad overall. What do you want to use it for though? Big hassle when you want to skin it extremely... Magento is also quite nice...

Zen cart is way better then OS commerceComment

They stopped you needing globals on a while back now. Even before the change to the core code there were mods to remove the need.
It's a great script but does require a LOT of mods and customisation to be truly useful. Zen is better in that respect and is based around the same original core code although it has veered off a bit now.
I'd stick with zen or OS personally simply because you can find a mod to do just about anything you could ever need. Not usually true of full on commercial scripts.
