Sounds fishy that he cannot afford a $13 book when the book is only for use on a computer... which costs a heluva lot more than $13.

I wouldn't do it but you should follow your heart, or pocketbook, whichever is more strained!

Give him a free membership to an online version of the book. That way you're still being generous and caring and all that shit, while at the same time not losing anything on physical inventory. If he wants to learn C++ he will obviously have to have a computer, so there shouldn't be any problems.
