This is what is wrong with the US legal system.
Sitting here watching A&E show "First 48 hours". It's a "real" detective type show, where they follow around police detectives during the first 48 hours of murder investigations.
They were doing an investigation and had a guy in custody and had a witness whom claimed he was the killer. The guy in custody claims his alibi was that he was with his wife at the hospital whom was giving birth to his child.
The cop's attitude about it, was he had more work to do in trying to "disprove the accused alibi". That very additude goes against everything the entire "innocent until proven guilty" idea.
The cop should be assuming the guy was innocent and trying to prove he had an alibi, rather than trying to disprove the alibi. I realise that sounds like splitting hairs but in reality it's a world of difference between the too.
