i bet the spyware guys are freaking out right now

this could be the start of something big

SUNNYVALE, Calif. - Through a partnership announced Tuesday, Yahoo! will incorporate the McAfee Site Advisor malware scanning program into its search engine. The companies expect the joint venture to eliminate illicit websites from Yahoo! search results. Yahoo! said it also will flag dodgy sites in an effort to advise users of reported problems.

"Warning: Unsolicited E-mails" and "Warning: Dangerous Downloads" are among the warning messages.

Firefox Add On, Site Advisor's main product, provides similar warnings. It is comparable to Haute Secure and has been downloaded 135 million times, according to McAfee.

The new feature for Yahoo! search users is optional, but the default setting is "on."

if it catches on with yahoo, it's only a matter of time before the goog does something similiar, if they're not already planning it.

ya, the omitted results have been around forever, but to label sites in bright red text right in the listings is a little different.

its a proof of concept, and yahoo is a player.

remember the problem of the spyware on surfers computers. the only real solution is to get that shit off the computers and this is the only viable time ive seen anything heading in that direction

Maybe you SE gurus should look at the organic results in yahoo.

they already do list sites that may be harmful to your computer, they haven't done spammer notifications yet though

There's going to be a lot of collateral damage, there have been a lot of "insert" type hacks lately where webmasters have malicious code added to their HTML. WMs may get redlisted at Yahoo without even realising their sites are installing zombieware.

is google at the point of labelling any site that has zango ads on it as "potentially harmful"
