any contacts at AOL? Grandpa trouble

Does anyone have any contacts at AOL?

My grandpa has been locked out of his account. He doesn?t know his security question answer, and (due to some strange time warner/aol joint billing situation) they have inaccurate info as his billing info (which is the ONLY other way to confirm who you are.)
My grandma may know more about the situation (since she set up the original account) but she?s dead.

He spent 6+ hours yesterday on the phone with AOL, Time Warner and his banks. I spent over 3 hours.

So far, there is NO way around it. He has to stop payment on his auto deduction from his bank, let the account cancel itself, and get a whole new account. He will lose all his contacts, addresses and mail. And since he will be unable to reply to the email he is currently getting, I have a feeling people will start to assume he died.

If anyone has a way to talk to an English speaking senior person at AOL (not the New Delhi call center that I am WAY to familiar with now) I would be very appreciative.

post here or email halcyon AT cockybastard.com

    THANKS!

Good luck man. Any number at AOL support will be routed to their centers in India.
Try asking for tier two support.

I know it may not be politically correct.

But i always insist not to speak to someone in India. In plain english.

Hey Hal, no help on the aol situation but he "might" still be able to log into aim and aol mail from aol.com to try and backup all his contacts in case they don't figure it out.

trouble is, since I can't verify my identity (in their eyes) they won't escalate me high enough. Maddening.

the only way to verify who you are is via the security question or the last 4 numbers of your billing method. Grandpa has access to neither.

(Well, we know the billing info, but it doesn't match what they have in their computer.)

              ROAD TRIP! ;)

like you said your grandma set up the account - what do you think she wouldve used for either?

maybe she used a cc or bank account thats no longer use.

if you can speak with an american youll be able to access the account.

                          Oh, we know the password.

Its the security question that is a mystery.

He's been locked out for a terms of service violation. (sometimes he gets confused and sends too many emails, etc. Its usually no big deal to just click a button and get back in. But this time its harder.)

ive had instances with both companies while helping a client with issues.

If you ask for an american tech most will connect you but it takes 20 min of asking and refusing to answer any questions.

i just keep saying please connect me a with an american technician

In the past Ive tried calling the Operation Security department and explaining my situation several times. They actually do have power and if they buy your arguement, they can help you out although it's not their general line of work.

i found this number for cancelling 1-877-773-4462..

they NEED member retention desparately, so i bet that they haven't outsourced that department.

just keep saying you want to cancel until you get an american

AOL is doing the best they can to drive themselves out of business. I know that is no help. I use them as backup when my dsl or my servers go down. Worked fine for several years, but it is getting worse and worse. The stories I have would require way to much typing.

His user names are stored locally and there is a chance that he saved some of his email to the local drive rather than aol. Of course I assume you have searched his PC for info. If you haven't, something to give a shot at.

Suspect there are those around GFY, that could crackin for ya. Up to you if you want to wear that black hat.. Might also be away to pull the passwords out of windows??
