you are sitting on your computer having 5 firefox tabs, 2 flash fxp windows, 6icq convos and 2 other programs open having an important icq conversation and all of a sudden

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM

computer shuts down....

thank god i got the laptop running...
seems like i gotta go to the city on monday to get myself a new cooler because the computer is gettin to hot

that blows..

My computer is shutting down too for no reason. I have huge fan blowing air to keep it cool but it still shuts down. Arrhhh... happens at least once a day.

mine usually never crahses too...
it is like the first crahs for 1 year

but in summer it crashed when i played games and i looked the temperature up and it is way to high

In order for you rPC to shut down due to heat it would have to be running extremely HOT.. like 80C+. I highly doubt this problem is heat related unless of course your pc has shitty cooling. (like most dell pcs). It may also be a spyware/virus thing. Boot up into safe mode and scan for viruses and spyware.

it is back up again and running without problems

the cooling system is shitty

Feel the air coming out of the back of the case where the power supply is and see just hot hot the air is. With what you are doing on your PC I can't see it getting very hot. the one on the main board is an intake to intake cooler air to cool down the heatsink and cpu, the one on the vid card is to cool the GPU, the one on the power supply is an exhaust to exahust the heat created by the power supply.

on my pc I have

2 fans on the side of my case (90mm - intake)
1 fan in the front of my case by the hard drive bay (120mm - intake)
1 fan on the back of my case (120mm - exhaust)
On the power suplly there are 2 fans. 1 on the bottom of the power suplly and 1 in the back
my vid card has a fan
and of course a fan for my cpu

If your pc is running that hot while down almost nothing that's a problem. How many components are plugged to the power supply? hard drives? cd/dvd-rom/burner etc..

right now I'm running firefox with 10 tabs, mozilla thunderbird, photoshop, I have a game open (paused) - Condemned - crimial origins, Ulead Media Studio Pro 8 and it's rendering 2 hours worth of video, Homesite, Leap FTP and 1 IE and the temps. are as follows

CPU: 54C (Pentium D 3ghz 930)
Inside the case: 29C
Video card: 40C (and it's overclocked from GPU: 450mhz to 500mhz and RAM: 1.05ghz to 1.2ghz)

maybe you have a faulty power supply. If you have an extra power supply around test it out. take out the old one and put the other one in. See if you have the same problem.

I have one computer that will do that on occasion. However, I know it's a screwy driver somewhere and just have never bothered to fix it. I do not use the PC all that much, and it's never for anything critical. It happens once maybe every few months.

Sometimes it's power, and fan related and the chip saving your board by powering off. Sometimes it's a simple driver issue. You just have to have the time and patience to dig through and find the conflict to fix it.
