As Hitler's birthday and 420 come to a close...(serious post)

Birthday parties and pot smoking aside, there is another event anniversary today that we should all rembember.

The Columbine Massacre was a tragic event that IMHO could have been avoided if people would raise their fucking kids right. There were guns in my house when I was growing up and God knows that I hated school....But for some reason, I had enough common sense to not take any guns to school and kill a bunch of people.

So, if you are a parent.....Remember this day and do what you have to do to make sure this kind of shit never happens to your children.

Very good post and unless something is changed soon it's going to get a lot worse. Parents right now suck as a whole. They are lazy and just don't give a shit.

or parents shouldn't be allowed to procreate without extensive parental training first.

wow how times have changed -- and in some cases, not for the better.

in all seriousness, the difference between then and now is EXCUSES.

i grew up in the general era that you did and we were disciplined by parents. all i hear nowadays on shows like maury and dr. phil, and all those whine and cry shows is, no one is protecting my kids from society, blah blah blah. the government is not responsible for your kids, parents are.

when i was growing up cocaine and lsd and mushrooms were still all over the place, and plenty of guns in our homes. our parents were parents though. they were the government to us. if we fucked up, or thought of doing some crazy shit, they could just tell, and we got owned by a belt, or a switch from a tree, or grounded for god awful periods of time. we had mtv, and rock and roll, and bad influences maybe more than today, but we turned out alright because we had the fear of god in us that our parents would destroy us if we acted the way some of these kids do today.

parents are pawning their responsibilities on the government. goes deeper than guns. it goes anywhere where parents should be responsible, including internet and what they watch on t.v.

what happened at columbine was avoidable.

and still the lesson hasn't been learned

RIVERTON, Kansas (AP) -- Five teenage boys fully intended to go on a shooting spree at their high school but were stopped after one of them discussed the plot on a Web site, law enforcement and school officials said.

The boys, ranging in age from 16 to 18, were arrested Thursday, the anniversary of the Columbine massacre, just hours before they planned to shoot fellow students and school employees, authorities said.

"What the resounding theme is: They were actually going to do this," Cherokee County Sheriff Steve Norman said.

The teens planned to wear black trench coats and disable the school's camera system before starting the attack between noon and 1 p.m. Thursday, Norman said. Sheriff's deputies found guns, ammunition, knives and coded messages in the bedroom of one suspect and documents about firearms and references to Armageddon in two suspects' school lockers.

Glad to see you bring this up Aaron. And Airek, you made a great post. Its a shame that parenting has changed for the worse.

Honestly, I do blame TV, movies and violent video games. It pretty much puts the idea that destruction and killing is fun and there are no consequences. And these parents just continue to let their kids watch and play with these horrible influences.

Parents need to step up. They have years of exerience of their own and have seen horrible things happen. Why they don't want to do everything in their power to stop those horrible things from happening is beyond me.

I played violent video games and watched tv as a kid and I never had the idea of going on a killing spree. You can't really point the finger at things like that, you have to look at the upbringing of the kids in most cases. Most people shouldn't be able to breed IMHO.

This is a great post Aaron....Columbine was a tragedy....i feel for both the victims, the families, but i also feel for Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold....they were also victims that day...

they were tomrented for years....their parents didnt care nor do anything about the out lashings....there were reports of problems with them and a fellow neighbor kid....----- brown.... if you did any research on this incident, I mean serious research youw ould find way more facts that the public let out....when i did my senior project in highschool this incident was fresh and I did MASS research on it....i found out way wayyy too much....I received THE video tapes from high ups in the news world....I watched things people never seen....I watched their OWN personal video tapings of the weeks before and even 1o or 15 minutes before the actual shooting....them bowling....being themselves, what seemed like normal kids....you could see the moments of anger that would come out, but nothing to out of the ordinary....

anyway....theres way more to it than just they are crazy and went shooting the school due to hate....

and dont let me get into the arsenal they had.....good lord.....

brings back so much memories and what not of more than a solid month of research....its crazy....i wish i still had the report online...(turned mine in inline instead oif on paper)

I wish i still had everything fromt here....tapes from NBC headquarters n shit....they wont let anyone have that shit now....

but yes...Aaron....it was a tragedy....and it IS the fucking parents...and it IS the fucking school system.....the school there totally runed their backs on Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold.....they were victims of falling through the cracks....

reminds me of my VERY OWN high school life.....there was this kid...he was a grade above me....he was very very weird...he said very disturbing things at times....things that involved death or...(take the kids out of the room) ...skewering babies..... like weird thingsa like that would pop out...and then he would be normal....not normal...but not morbid like that.....i tried making friends with him...see get a closer view into his life ( I was way into analyzing people in high school, was a psych freak) .... so i watched and researched him....i mentioned it to the school staff a couple times like he might need counceling...help of some sort....he was talked to....but nothing EVER done....

2 weeks or so after i had talked to a councelor or whoever it was i talked to last about him....beside the point....2 weeks after i mentioned to anyone he needs help....

he stabbed a 9 year old in the face more than 10 times....heres the part that will get you..... he was babysitting the kid...his parents and the parents of the boy both knew him and what he was....how could they not....well they left him there....and he did it....then he walked 2 miles....to a payphone in the middle of nowhere...blood on him...tossed the knife in the river on the way.....

I could not believe it....yet....I could....and I felt for everyone....

what i didnt feel too much for is his parents....because they DID NOTHING.....the school did NOTHING....

These people...the parents and the school staff.....they are here to make sure this dosnt happen....they are here not to raise people into perfect molds, but to shape the oblong ones into a nice shape.....ya feel me....yet....the world seems to turn their eye....

                                            why.....is it a bother....are THEY a bother, so fuckem?

Ill bet if any of the "ADULTS" around columbine .... or brookings ORegon.....gave some fuckin time to these kids to see what was wrong....it wouldnt have happened....no they were tossed aside and rediculed.....BY EVERYONE!....

the two instances are no where near the same....but they both hold the same problem...

Great post. What happened in Columbine affected me because I was still in High School when it happened. I just hope when its time for my little ones to go to school that I wont have to worry about that crap happening to them.

I've never blamed TV, Games, or anything of that sort. It's really the parents job to teach their kids these days. I don't know what happened to parenting.

Guns should be illegal to produce, except for military and police.
BULLSHIT! Crooks and crazy people will still get them. You think crooks register their guns? Cocaine is illegal it's everywhere. Pot is illegal it's everywhere. You aren't going to stop people from getting them. You teach your kids right from wrong. If someone wants to kill someone there are more ways to do it than with a gun. And if you read up on Columbine they made bombs too. So either way you look at it, the KIDS killed the kids. Whether they had a gun or not they would have found a way.

I have a gun and there is no way in hell people like you are going to take my right to protect myself from someone, who ILLEGALLY got their gun, from coming in my house and raping and torturing me until death.

If you don't want guns in the country you live, move to a place where they are illegal and be happy. America will always allow us to protect ourselves.

I remember watching that on TV and I saw the part where they were pulling a student out of a window and he is was covered in blood. The camera cut it out once they realize how bad the kid was. I just sat in front of the TV with my mouth hanging open. I couldn't believe it. Imagine if the bombs they made actually all went off. It would have been so insane. I feel for all and great post baby!

I agree, so many people condemn the two as monsters when there was so much more to it than that. I saw a great made for tv movie that was based on the Columbine tragedy that offered a lot of insight.
