Most of my sites are 100% automated. The only thing I really need to do is check my sites regularly to make sure the sites are updated correctly. Just this week I noticed one of my MGPs wasn't displaying thumbs that my script was supposed to be creating. As it turns out the script had made so many thumbs over the years that it ate all of its allotted disk space.
A quick modification to my automation script to delete the thumbs that are more than 90 days old (and thus would have rotated off the site) was all I needed. Had I not checked that site and noticed the thumbs weren't showing up I might have done some real harm to the site's traffic. The moral of the story: Even if you have everything automated, you still need to keep on top of things.
