From what I understand they don't allow the internet...

I think that changed since Castro's brother come on power,now even citizens can go to hotels,have internet and cell phones,just not sure how wide is internet there and how good

yes, you can have internet now, and foreigners living in Cuba could have it all along, although the speeds are not too good.
But porn is illegal and you'll get your butt handed to you if they catch you with porn in your computer, or even working on it. Hopefully that will change... I'd love to buy a house there and raise my family in Cuba, it's very safe and so pretty!

guys, XXXJay's experience does not reflect that of most tourists that visit Cuba. My husband and I have gone there numerous times; so have several of our friends, and neither of us has ever had a problem. Jay may have had an attitude and Cuban military guys may have thought he needed a little adjustment, or may be they thought he had drugs, etc.

there is wireless in some of the new hotels, like Panorama, and most of them have a sort of a internet center, around 6 CUC an hour.
Cuba is fine, could be a great experience, as long as you know a bit of spanish, you travelled before and you have common sense. Cigars, rum and chicks are great quality and cheap, if you know how to find the good ones and you can bargain.

Have not been in a couple of years but last time I was there top hotels would allow you to use the net, but it was slow. Few Cubans were allowed and it was limited to doctors, professors and the like.

Internet is slow and you may have to wait in line to get access to an aged PC in a internet cafe. No problem in better hotels for an upscale price or inside the home of privileged Cuban friends.
The deal about Cuba is to be away from the internet and the PC. Enjoy the freedom of no connectivity. Plenty of pussy to be had (for a price). You can shoot porn a lot (specially if you like extremely hairy girls .... they will fuck you for a razor blade or some toothpaste!!!), but you need to be very super low key .... bring a lot of cash and deposit it with trustworthy friends in case you run into problems. Bring cash... You can use credit cards, at the local bank to withdrawl money. They do the transactions via Canadian banks, so thier is no US connection as to where you are withdrawing the money.

Havana is like any third world city, so you will have just about anything for a price.

Try to rough it out by going to Oriente. Visit Santiago de Cuba. Get away from the tourist areas... If you can make friends with someone, you can easily have them be your tour guide for less then $500.00 and expenses for the whole time your are in the Island.

Like the posts have said, Cuba is very safe, just don't be an idiot and be polite to everyone you meet. The soldiers and cops are your best friends, these guys will protect your ass like it's golden.

Try to make friends, cubans are always jokeing around. Just buy the beer and drinks and best friends will apear that you had no idea about. The beer sucks, really watered down, the smokes... why even try them when you can get high on a good cuban cigar.

Cuba is GREAT for running scams on hookers. They *were* in a bubble and information was not east to get. On one trip there, I had a guy with me that was built very well, lots of muscles, very clean cut. Our Spanish was not the best at that time and when they asked us where we were from, we started telling people the baseball team of our city (Cincinnati) because nobody knew the city alone. But when it came to baseball, they knew.

So we would start with "Rojo de Cincinnati" which is the Cincinnati Reds (the reds of cincinnati). Then we would tell them we were from that city. Well one night at a bar we said that and before we could tell them we lived there, THEY THOUGHT we PLAYED for the Cincinnati Reds and told the entire bar!!! They told everyone. They went out and told people in the streets. Drinks were on the house and we fucking owned the place for the night. The hottest chicks you have EVER seen in your life were on our nuts and we both took a few of them back to our casa particular. Actually, before going back we made several stops so they could introduce us to their friends and family. Signed autographs. Incredible. We never told them. Thank god nobody wanted to play stick ball the next day.

I've heard that the banks share their info with the US Government, the same as the airlines in other countries share their flight manifest with them. The USA is hell bent on knowing everything that is going on down there. Mexico at one time didn't share the flight manifest, but I hear now they do and more Americans than ever are getting into trouble over it.

Before there was only one judge to hear all the cases for Americans caught going to Cuba. "Trading with the enemy" they call it. Our asshole president Bush hired a shit load of more judges to process all the cases. Before they were so jammed up nobody was really getting into trouble. Now they are fining people $7000 a pop like their lives depended on it. You can travel to Cuba but you can't spend money there. That is the catch. Unless you can prove you were "fully hosted" you are paying a whopper fine if you get caught.

The thing that pisses me off, is that Cuba is a wonderful and safe place to visit and is not the place Americans were raised believing. I've had some of the best times of my life in Cuba and hope to live there someday when things lighten up.
