| Bring cash... You can use credit cards, at the local bank to withdrawl money. They do the transactions via Canadian banks, so thier is no US connection as to where you are withdrawing the money.
 Havana is like any third world city, so you will have just about anything for a price.
 
 Try to rough it out by going to Oriente. Visit Santiago de Cuba. Get away from the tourist areas... If you can make friends with someone, you can easily have them be your tour guide for less then $500.00 and expenses for the whole time your are in the Island.
 
 drink sugar cane juice. "garapo" instead of COKE.
 
 Like the posts have said, Cuba is very safe, just don't be an idiot and be polite to everyone you meet. The soldiers and cops are your best friends, these guys will protect your ass like it's golden.
 
 Try to make friends, cubans are always jokeing around. Just buy the beer and drinks and best friends will apear that you had no idea about. The beer sucks, really watered down, the smokes... why even try them when you can get high on a good cuban cigar.
