I was talking with this guy whos a tech for sprint just last Wend, and is on call... so they have them on a pager... He said it was due to the fact that the company tried to give out cells to to all the on call techs but, the cells don't have service everywhere so they never showed up to calls... I used to have one back in the 70's it was 4 times the size of the current ones.This is pre cellphone days, the car mobile phone had one channel in town, so if someone was making a call you had to wait till they were finished
