o yea, your mtv trash commentary was pure brilliance.Originally posted by nofxthat was the lamest comeback ever. think for more than 3 seconds next time.
The only reason MTV ever started playing TOOL was because of the extremely innovative stop-time animated videos directed by band member Adam Jones. Musically, they never in any way fit in with MTV's programming.
Maybe it's not your style, but if you can't acknowledge TOOL as something unique and innovative in a world of lackluster and homogenized crap, then you're fooling yourself. They have never followed any trends.

I agree to a point, but Tool is all about the money, Maynard is anyway. They are very anal about their music, as in extremely protective. Maynard doesn't give a fuck, he's laughing at everyone buying his music thinking its this amazing in-depth work of art. He wants the money. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but its funny watching people argue over it.Originally posted by badmunchkino yea, your mtv trash commentary was pure brilliance.

I went to a APC show a couple years back. Throughout the whole show he was pushing the upcoming album extremely hard and even made several references to how people will buy whatever he does and make him even more money. His songs are calling the listeners sheep, while the listeners are thinking he's calling everyone else sheep. Its really pretty funny.Vacares - Web Hosting, Domains, O365, Security & More - Paxum and BTC Accepted

I haven't seen a TOOL video on MTV in a looooooooong-ass time - and I've never seen an APC video. When does MTV play videos again now? On TRL?Originally posted by nofxand thats why APC is also an MTV whore band right? because of their claymation videos, nope. because maynard puts $ before music.
The only scant few videos MTV ever plays are geared towards teenyboppers and the hip hop fans.
I'm not even a huge APC fan but I don't think they were a sell-out either. APC is based around prog rock bands like King Crimson - and when they first came out there was nothing less cool then prog rock.
I remember Rolling Stone dismissed them as being prog rock and said they would never ever sell CDs in the trendy music marketplace. Hardly a sell-out. "yea, let's sell 7 minute epic prog rock songs that don't follow any traditional song structure to the kids. That's all the rage right now!" Once again, love 'em or hate 'em, they're not following trends.

that's no different then when Jim Morrison told his audience "you're all a bunch of slaves" It's playing with the limits of crowd psychology for your own amusement. It's part of being a performer and an artist. It's not playing into what you're "supposed" to be as a performer - a crowd-pleaser. Sometimes it's more interesting to try to get the audience to hate you or to play the bad guy.Originally posted by SlyI agree to a point, but Tool is all about the money, Maynard is anyway. To come to the conclusion that Maynard doesn't give a shit about his music and it's all about the $$$ - is total bullshit. If someone was really all about the money, they wouldn't announce it to the world. He purposely tried to get a reaction out of you and succeeded.Comment
