I was caught in the change too -- I missed being legal at 19 by 63 days. Like others, that really did not stop me from drinking.

Driving drunk is a bad thing. (I should know, I did it often enough!) But drinking when you are 18 years old, in and of itself, is not a bad thing. Tougher drunk driving laws and enforcement reduce drunk driving casualties; raising the drinking age is an end run around really addressing the issue. The Mothers Against Drunk Driving would bring back Prohibition if they could and they will come up will all kinds of junk science to prove their point

I support lowering the drinking age to the age of majority --once you become an adult you should be able to do all adult things. It make no sense that at 18 you can go to an adult prison, you can join the military and get killed in war, you can be in porn and get fucked by 100 different people on camera, but you cannot legally go have a drink afterwards.

Legalize pot too. Nobody ever OD'ed on pot. If you drive when you are stoned, you drive really slow (still stupid, but safer than driving drunk when you want to drive fast), and when you are stoned you love everybody and don't get into fights like drunk people do.
