The recent FAA issue is just one more example of one of the many results. i.e. the free market puts preasure on the airlines to lower their prices more and more which results in poorer maintence, pay-offs etc. Capitalism and the free market are like locusts and it will move elsewhere when it's finished devouring all it can.. But people also don't want governement controlling everything which would be a hardcore form of Socialism... People want their own home, couple cars, 9 to 5, health car that won't make them lose everything if they get really sick.. a "good" life"... Neither Capitalism nor Socialism will give them what they really want in the long run.. There needs to be something different that's a balance between the two.

FAA has nothing to do with putting pressure on airlines for anything other than safety. the airline industry has always been full of turds for the very reasons i am talking about... when things get tough... the federal government steps in and gives them billions of dollars. AND they do it while at the same time, airlines like Southwest become the most successful and most profitable in history.
this country wasn't built on socialism... it was built on the principles of a free market economy.
i kinda agree with you in that people have unrealistic expectations... that with success comes risk... with risk comes losses etc. i understand that people are incapable of thinking about "the good of the whole" vs "the good of me and my shiny new wheels" and thats a problem that will never go away.
my issue in all of this is the constant reinforcement of the idea that the individual is never anything but a victim and government is there to pick up the pieces for them. i am tired of the constant pandering to these people. people in this country these days go through life like a 1/2 retarded 10 year old.
