I guess this is a case where two people can watch the same thing and form two different opinions on it. I didn't see it as trivializing their beliefs but more a statement that people don't vote for candidates based on economic ideals because they feel like it doesn't matter who they vote for when it comes to the economy because they won't do anything good for them so they end up voting for things they feel can impact them which is guns and religion. I didn't see it as him talking down to anyone.
