I would have taken it home and kept a close eye on the news. If it turned out that the guards were ordered to pay back the money out of their own pocket, I would have anonymously mailed the money back since that's just not right. It doesnt matter how you came upon that money, even if someone gave it to you(in possesion of stolen goods), if you are caught spending that money you will be charged with a crime and you will do time.
If it isn't yours then it has to be somebodies and willfully denying someone their property regardless of the situation is still theft. Not to mention with that sum of money you might likely be charged with Grand Theft since you had the opportunity to return it but didnt even try.
