    Microsoft helps block typo-squatters

    When a user visits a Web site, her browser may be instructed to visit other third-party domains without her knowledge. Some of these third-party domains raise security, privacy, and safety concerns. The Strider URL Tracer, available for download, is a tool that reveals these third-party domains, and it includes a Typo-Patrol feature that generates and scans sites that capitalize on inadvertent URL misspellings, a process known as typo-squatting. The tool also enables parents to block typo-squatting domains that serve adult ads on typos of children's Web sites.

                      that's a great idea. a kid mis-types a URL and is redirected to a porn site, things like that just shouldnt happen.

                          why does Microsoft care if some surfer mistypes washingtonpost.com and ends on a search page displaying Google ads? dont they have other problems ?

                          i hope this tool wont be included in some windows update

                              Lets see it prevents people from accidently getting porn sites - good for kids.
                              It prevents people from squating on typos and running adsense which hurts google. - good for microsoft.
                              Prevents me from typing in my own domain and freaking out because I miss typed it and thinking I got jacked. - good for me.

                                  Typo squatting is lame. I hate it when I misspell a domain, and get 40923094092049204924923049 popups...

                                  I am not aiming on domains as

                                  fimalesex etc. (where ppl 'want femalesex) But ppl who use domains like goggle yahoop etc
