All hosts with extensive DDOS PROTECTION spam me!

Looking for a list of hosts that have secured their network as much as possilbe to thwart things like heavy ddos attacks.

If you could just let me know what you have in place to deal with things like this, could possibly be moving around 25-30 boxes your way.

Right, of course nothing is 100% but there is equipment / measures that can help slow things like this down...

Basically I don't want a wide open network with nothing in place to deal with stuff like this.

Reflected.net has kept us up and running through heavy DDOS attacks lasting months at a time. Best hosting company around.

You must manage your own servers, they are responsible for hardware/network issues though.

Yep, but there are tools to stop almost all dos attacks. Mail bombing is the new thing.

Prolexic is pretty much without peer in the industry as far as the robustness of their DDOS defense solution. Their services are expensive, but if you're getting repeatedly attacked, these are the people to go to.

Here is an article on the founder of Prolexic and the story of how he bailed out the owner of a large gambling site.

if the attack is that major, they will just null route the ip at the backbone, and wait for it to stop.

yeah, but then biz stops then everyone freaks out

last attack followed the domain to any ip we switched to, was pretty fucked up

Just get a good server tech that knows his way around iptables. They can't have that huge of a botnet. Block all open proxies. There are scripts that can help you with this.

If indeed you are under attack by profesionall ddos'ers, then someone hired them to take you down, but then you need to contact authorities, because they are after the big sharks. But i doubt this is the case, you're not big enough to be worth the money.

ah thanks for helping me figure out how much i was worth... besides that, iptables and scripts wouldn't cut it for the type of attacks we want to be protected from. Been there done that... no help.

ya ip tables wouldnt stop a medium size attack, remember you are just using software to block an ip. most ddos attacks are spoofed attacks anyway, and if they were smart they wouldnt just ddos your ip. they would ddos the main router.

Here is a good article on DDoS attacks.

Serious attacks are often hard to combat. However, with good quality networking equipment and a knowledgeable network engineer, it's not too much of a concern.

This is another one of those "you get what you pay for" issues in the hosting world.

The problem is that ddos attacks put a great load on a companies network, so you will have a hard time finding a host that will accept you considering what you've just told. Best would be a provider that also accepts IRC servers, a shell provider for example, since that's the most dangerous industry when it comes to ddos, they are usually more expensive and have the security in place. The only problem is that most of them are shit, a lot of downtime (fdcservers.net for example, but I don't think they accept adult).

lets not forget MSN was dosed and taken offline for almost two days and yahoo was for almost a full day.

I guess the question is what level attack are we concerned about, at some point I would think there is nothing you can do but block the i.p. of course we are talking about groups that have thousands of hacked computers and servers pointing at you.

I agree for for the most part with a firewall and ip tables they can be dealt with swiftly.

bad idea if u go with a host that takes irc servers, you will suffer even more downtime as irc servers are targetted every single day.

They would, you just didn't utilise it to the fullest extent. When i mention scripts, i mean of scripts that block/check for open proxies. Most of the ip's you're seeing the ddos from are proxies. Block that and you'll see it drop drastically. Ofcourse, hosting matters aswell because you need at least somewhat normal/reliable hardware, but other then that, a server tech is more important.

A real botnet/drones/zombies wouldn't display as proxies. They're actually harvested through several years, and aren't put to action untill some big dough is cashed in. You aren't seeing that.

Note this thread hasn't been bombarded with adult hosts spamming their services non-stop as usual, they don't own the datacentres or hardware and know their upstream providers will nullroute the victim IP or their whole IP space when they see 4Gbps incoming DDoS

iptables wont help much when your upstream pipes are getting saturated, which isn't a hard thing to do these days.

ps: if uptime and stability is an important thing for you, i'd personally sway away from providers that advertise they accept IRC servers

Watch out for UltraDNS though. I had very bad experience with them not providing services properly and over billing.
