iomega has good drives I think , I just bought a 60 gig one , they are small and thus very portable, and they are very fast

Marcus, I have nine Seagate 300 GB, so far ALL have been trouble free, noise varies, mostly very quiet, costs around $275, mac or pc, USB and firewire 400/800 ......

I'm only buying Seagates now. Had too many failures with WD's and Max's.

I like Seagate 400gb alot, except for the time someone accidentially knocked out the firewire cable during a transfer and wiped the drive

Fuck, while we're at it, what's up with the slowness of mass capacities on externals? Last I checked they've been sitting on 400gbs for like 2 years now.

I've almost always used Maxtor and never had a problem.. I recently bought a Maxtor 250G and stuck it in this external LanDrive case thing and hooked it up to the network.. works nice.. can also be plugged into USB 2 ports.

I've purcahsed 3 Maxtors and 3 Lacie (I needed larger then 300).. All the Maxtors ran trouble free for a few years. I think 4, 3.5 and then I traded the other one.

I've sent my Lacie drives back 3 times for replacement. The Lacie Firewire/800 adapter I purchase also failed. Basically 4 purchases from Lacie and 4 failures

My next external purchace will be SATA RAID and I'll build it using Seagate drives.

If I needed just a 300G external I'd probably buy 2 Maxtors. 1 for the data and 1 for the backup.

I've only used WD's for internal and external for 7+ years now.

I've never had a HD fail, or corrupt, etc. I have a good 6 different ext.'s bought at different times over that period. Countless internals as I switch out machines every 1.5-2 years, and all have dual drives minimum.

just run a seagate with an external usb 2.0 enclosure.

seagate harddrives have a minimum 3 year warranty

I have a Maxtor. I just went with the thing that looked to be the easiest, as I can be pretty non-tech at times. So far it's done me well.
