You're on again about how people only watch fox news, and you know best. When exactly was the last time you were in Iraq, anyway?Originally posted by directfiesta

Usually when people speak of "ruining" something, it's in regards to something that was already good. "They traded away all the best players and thus ruined a great baseball team!". Iraq is not in a good way now, sure, but let's face it: Iraq's a shit hole..Comment

Nice one - you have proved KRL's point that everyone is Iraq is much happier now, even during funerals.
Infact one Iraqi i consulted, said he was going into the funeral business (a) because there's a lot of work these days in Iraq and (b) because everyone who goes is very happy.

Although I think the iraq situation is fucked up beyond repair any time soon... posting pics and news articles on how things are horrible there is just silly. It's just one side of the story.
..I could just post pics from ghettos of the US, gangwars and news articles of dead people and say the same things about the usa.
I'm not saying things are peachy in iraq by any stretch of imagination, but I find it hilarious that americans always need to see things black and white, there's no middleground. Opinions like everyone in IRAQ is in mortal danger every second of their lives, and on other news.. things are peachy in the US, birds are singing and everyone's happy. No. There's a middle ground for both.
</end rant>..and I'm off.Comment

You are living in a glasshouse dude... seriouslyOriginally posted by KRLWe took out a repressive, sadistic, and barbaric regime. We took the political power away from the minority and gave it to the majority. The news warps the reality. I've talked to soldiers who have been there. The people are happier now, regardless of the fact its still a chaotic situation with remnents of the former regime still trying to fuck the place up and get back whatever power they can.
It will be a civil war now, and it will be up to the Iraqi people to succeed or stay in a state of turmoil.
Our military mission is complete and we should just provide backup military support/training/supplies and assist with infrastructure rebuilding going forward.
People that already had electricity once in a while now have none. And because of their religion (they gotta bath before and after), they can't fuck anymore.
This is about to turn into a fucking civil war... there will be many many many more causualities then with Saddam's regime.Originally posted by rayadp05I rebooted, deleted temp files, history, cookies and everything...still cannot view the news clip. All I see is that fucking gay ass music video from "Rick Roll". Anyone else have a different link to the news clip?Comment

I think what's happened in Iraq is something akin to aggressive chemotherapy. Getting rid of the cancer was a good thing, but the treatment itself had all manner of side-effects.
It's worth noting that it's not all bad in Iraq. Twelve provinces have virtually no insurgency or acts of terrorism. Baghdad is a mess though and given that the media is concentrated there, it becomes the prism through which the entire country is viewed by the outside world.
I can't see an invasion of Iran ever happening, at least not without putting the US economy on a war footing. The Iranians wouldn't just melt away like the Iraqi forces, there are a lot more of them and they're better equipped. If you think Iraq is mess now, it would seem like heaven compared to a post-invasion Iran.
I think that North Korea is a paper tiger. One day it will just unexpectedly collapse like the USSR did and we'll all be wondering why we didn't just give it a shove decades ago.http://pandemos.net

a little lesson from someone no in the usa, iraq was not attacked to free the liberation it was attacked for oil
bush didnt give a fuck about people being tortured, people in africa are being tortured all the time, and thats by starvation of food, rather than human torture, yet bush still brings in the debts.
Its all oil whether you like it or not. oil makes the world go round. without oil america would be as useful as a shithole like irelandFAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG

I think Iraq was about oil, but not in the sense of invading the country and pillaging it. The oil issue went hand in hand with setting up a democracy. There's nothing better than a free market democracy to ensure continuity of supply.http://pandemos.net

I feel bad for all the people getting killed and forced to live in shit without electricty.
But having said that...
I think it's the funniest thing in the world to happen to the United States.
All because
1) American's can't count votes
2) They let the television do the thinking for them.

No problem - here ya go - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/2719939.stm will give you a little taste of it - but if you note the quote of Churchills in the captioned box "I am strongly in favour of using poisoned gas against uncivilised tribes" - you have to dig a little deeper into some historians books - "Churchill was in no doubt that gas could be profitably employed against the Kurds and Iraqis (as well as against other peoples in the Empire): *I do not understand this sqeamishness about the use of gas. I am strongly in favour of using poison gas against uncivilised tribes.* Henry Wilson shared Churchills enthusiasm for gas as an instrument of colonial control but the British cabinet was reluctant to sanction the use of a weapon that had caused such misery and revulsion in the First World War. Churchill himself was keen to argue that gas, fired from ground-based guns or dropped from aircraft, would cause *only discomfort or illness, but not death* to dissident tribespeople; but his optimistic view of the effects of gas were mistaken. It was likely that the suggested gas would permanently damage eyesight and *kill children and sickly persons, more especially as the people against whom we intend to use it have no medical knowledge with which to supply antidotes.*Originally posted by Ian"You might want to go brush up on your history a little and do some research into what Winston Churchill did to the villagers in Iraq - you think Hitler was genocidal - and Saddam was bad with his chemical weapons that the US supplied to him - wait till you find the part about Churchill gassing the Iraqis with chemical weapons and then come back here with a little more information"
Help me out on this one Linkster, I don't have any idea what you're talking about. Honest.:-)
Churchill remained unimpressed by such considerations, arguing that the use of gas, a *scientific expedient,* should not be prevented *by the prejudices of those who do not think clearly*. In the event, gas was used against the Iraqi rebels with excellent moral effect* though gas shells were not dropped from aircraft because of practical difficulties
This is from IRAQ: FROM SUMER TO SUDAN by Geoff Simons (1994 London: St. Martins Press) and is footnoted with the British Archives for the quotes and history.
And if you look up (although some will undoubtedly preach that he's a left-winger idiot) some of Norm Chomsky's work on this you will find a pretty concise history from the archives including:
"The British use of poison gas had been suppressed for many years. Records were released, including Churchill's enthusiasm, around 1980. Every time I went to England and gave a talk on any topic I made sure to bring that up, and discovered that everybody's ears were closed. By the time of the Gulf War information was beginning to seep through, but the details on how the military followed Churchill's directives were still sealed. In 1992 the British government under popular pressure instituted an "open government" policy - meaning that in a free and democratic society people should have access to information about their own government. The first act taken under the open information policy was to remove from the Public Records office all documents having to do with England's use of poison gas against the Kurds and Afghans and Churchill's role in it. So that's one that we're not going to know a lot about thanks to the dedication to freedom and democracy for which we praise ourselves effusively"
As an aside Im afraid that you will find most Americans and British do have their ears and eyes closed to the history of Iraq, Turkey (the Ottomans) and Iran so very few will understand what Im posting about - hope it helpsComment

Actuallly before the Iraq war Saddam was selling oil in euros, that had more to do with the war than the spread of democracy, Read about it here - http://www.ratical.org/ratville/CAH/RRiraqWar.htmlOriginally posted by PandemosI think Iraq was about oil, but not in the sense of invading the country and pillaging it. The only thing that would be right, as now, is to let saddam back out.
The attack wasnt approved by the UN.
Bush should be the one in jail, if the country was sadistic regim, how come the US let thousand and thousands of children die in iraq while saddam was running it?I hate israel and everything it stands for.
Bomb the shit out of that country.Comment
