New on GFY, A few quick questions

Ok, so I'm new to the whole Adult webmastering thing, however I do have numerous other websites and I can answer two of those questions. The smaller the niche, the better in most cases. Also, 500 gb is probably WAY too much to start with, but in time it will be plenty.

These are just my educated opinions, what does the adult industry have to say though? They probably have better ideas than I do so far :P

I pretty much agree with fbrtopic.
I personally try to do the job constantly doing 2 galls a day pushing various sponsors.

Chameleon is nice and widely recommended for beginners with a database updated on a daily basis

Welcome aboard, it is good to diversify with the sponsors that you use. We have over 60 sites in a variety of niches with tons of free content and galleries. But I do recommend trying and using a variety of sponsors. For the info on what converts best, both bizarre and regular hardcore converts.
