What Would You Do About Doggy?

So my girl has this 12 yearold Rottie and while going for a walk it tore it's acl.Wasn't doing anything drastic just walking.Bo has bad hips as it is and probably on it's last legs. She's over crying that she went to 3 vets and the price ranged from 2500 to 4 k to fix up old Bo.She has had him since he was a pup and I feel her pain..I hate to see animals suffer so I told her go get him fixed and send me the bill.
Would you put Bo down or get him fixed up?

Dysplasia is a result of irresponsible (commercially motivated) breeding practices.

            Urgh.

I would have done the same thing too.

I'm a big animal love as well (no, not in a sick sort of gay way).

My partner and I got our cat from the shelter. It was the least healthy one in the place (out of probably a couple of hundred), and was slated to be put down.

We spent about $2,200 the first 2 months after we got him, treating all of his medical conditions.

Two years later, he's as healthy as can be, and we both feel that we made the right decision getting him.

Families that have children and other financial responsibilities can adopt the healthy young pets from the shelter. We'll always be happy to have the ones that need a little bit of help, because we're in a position to provide it.

On the same note, I'd certainly never fault someone that had a pet that needed several thousand dollars worth of work done, and they simply can't afford it. I just wish they'd contact the shelters before they take the step of putting them down, as there are those out there willing to help out.

The thing is we have only been dating a few months. She can't afford it and I don't want to be taken advantage of for everything that goes wrong.I know I would do it for my pet and although the dogs life expectancy is only around 10 years I guess it only prolongs the inevitable

Then this is definately a BAD move to make. It's kind of early in a relationship to be throwing that kind of money around.

I think your concearns are valid.

It's got nothing to do with her, IMHO, it's you, the animal, and the circumstances that brought you together. Consult Karma.

True enough, although I would hate myself if she had no choice to put down the old guy because she can't afford it...
