Is your spam-proof email really safe?

Don't you people thing there's bots smart enought to figure out that a phrase like
john at smith.com
john at smith dot com
john at smith com
john [[at]] smith d0t com

and so forth is an email address?

hey im guilty of it to, was just thinking.. what an easy way to get good email addresses if you made a spider that harvested those types of email.. they're obviously used emails that ppl want their semi important mails to go to...

The best is to use an image for the address.

The more different you make it like the less likely it is that it will be crawled... but nothing is impossible, a clever bot writer could probably make a program that would recognize even email addresses like that...

In order for anyone to make it onto my "A List Inbox" list I have to physically approve them. All else is routed to the delete (shit) bin.

So no, it doesn't matter, to me anyway.

whether or not someone would want to spam certain people is besides the point.
But it is perfectly possible to extract all email addresses mentioned in this thread.

This is the reason I no longer post to many mailing lists: their web archives use a very simple form of obfuscation (eg "username at domain dot com") which won't fool anything but the most stupid harvester. I made a single post with a 100% new email addr and it wasn't long before it was receiving spam.

The only way to stop it being harvested is to make it complicated enough that it requires a few steps to "construct" the correct address, but that won't stop assholes adding you manually.
