What amazes me is that its been reported that its taken scholar after scholar and professors and lawyers, and judges to understand and interpret the following sentence as giving Americans the right to bear arms? I mean come on, who are they selling this shit to?

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

Only the US would spend decades debating and arguing over whether or not the above statement ACTUALLY means, citizens have the right to arms...

A well regulated militia sounds like an organised group of soldiers, not a dumbass redneck with a .45.

            you miss this line?

            Who is The people then?

"the right of the people to keep and bear Arms"

The People are not the Militia (Army)... "The people" as in our Constitution has ALWAYS been read as "Us Americans" ...

Well the way some people read that amendment, "the people" have the right to keep and bear arms only in direct connection to a "well regulated militia". Meaning that those in the militia are the ones entitled to keep and bear arms.

Doesnt matter top me though, Im living in the gun loving state of Louisiana (New Orleans), where I can ride around with pistols and shotguns in the trunk or front seat of my car and have no problems whatsoever.

Here your car is "extension of your home' and guns are not a problem, if a cop pulls you over just alert them that you have a weapon and they will be polite but cautious and cool... let the citizens of Washtington Shithole fight for their own rights to guns... guns are loved and welcomes here down south...

"Governments have a right to regulate those firearms, a majority of justices seemed to agree."

The gun nuts seem to forget this.

In that case you may want to type in crayon seeing how the average GFYer has the mentality of a 9 year old.

And no comments on my mom except that my dad is a 6'5 ex marine with jealousy issues....lol

That is the way I read it.... but I still think everyone should be able to have a machine gun if they want.

Holy shit - You aren't kidding.

The second Act, passed May 8, 1792, provided for the organization of the state militias. It conscripted every "free able-bodied white male citizen" between the ages of 18 and 45 into a local militia company overseen by the state. Militia members were required to arm themselves at their own expense with a musket, bayonet and belt, two spare flints, a cartridge box with 24 rounds of ammunition, and a knapsack. Men owning rifles were required to provide a powder horn, 1/4 pound of gun powder, 20 rifle balls, a shooting pouch, and a knapsack.[3] Some occupations were exempt, such as congressmen, stagecoach drivers, and ferryboatmen. Otherwise, men were required to report for training twice a year, usually in the Spring and Fall. Two types of milita companies emerged by 1830: Volunteers and Enrolled. Volunteer militia companies were popular, prestigious, and often exclusive, with members possessing political or social connections. Each company designed its own uniforms, marched in parades, and held banquets, balls, etc. Enrolled companies consisted of men who wanted no part of the system, and training days often were drunken parties, with few members possessing working firearms and the required equipment.

Um, I think I failed to report to duty with my musket.....

My lord, we do have some silly laws on the books, don't we?

Actually they arent silly at all and serve as a supporting role for the 2nd amendment. Without them still in effect and on the books one might argue we dont need the 2nd amendment seeing how we have no militia act to call citizen soldiers to pick up arms.
