A gallon of E-85 contains only about 70% of the energy of a gallon of regular gasoline. So one has to take that into account when comparing prices (ie. paying $3.00 for E-85 is way too much!) because (as another poster pointed out) MPG is
much worse with E-85.
Another issue, that's virtually never mentioned, is the added wear on the engine from using E-85. Even E-85 compatible engines (most these days) are likely not totally protected from the corrosive damage that E-85 can inflict on parts.
