can't relly compare.
A) Americans drive futher because our contry is bigger and more spread out and also we really don't have public transportation so we use more gas.
B) I think you have your math backwards. You really don't pay $8.80 a gallon. because you are not paying in $ you are paying in euros. See if the Euro and the $ are the same value and for every 100 euros you get paid you can get $100. Now your pay is the same yet now you can get $156. So really your 5.64 euros per gallon is the same as an American paying $3.66 which is not much higher than what people are paying now.
Europeans coming to America on vacation can get a very good deal now. For 650 euros they can get $1000. Where as before to get $1000 would have cost 1000 euros or more.
