I used to say the same thing until a friend of mine made an attempt at suicide unsuccessfully then went on a few months later to finish the job.
If nothing else, most suicide attempts are cries for help that shouldn't be ignored.

As a celeb it may be true he is trying to keep his name in the papers. In general though, I think a fair percentage of suicide attempts need to be taken seriously. I agree that if someone really wants to die, they can achieve it in single go. But the truth is a lot of people become so depressed that they feel death is the only way out (and a part of them really wants it), but at the same time they are afraid to carry it through completely. They end up stuck in a world of misery, and I don't think brushing them all off as attention whores really helps them get out of that, if anything it may well be the thing that convinces them to overcome the fear that made them hold back first time round.ICQ: 637//961--015Comment

My best friend has the Bipolar Syndrome and wanted to suicide 2 weeks ago, but did not have the guts to do it, and admitted it... otherwise he would have done it. It's a cry for HELP and support.
Anyway, the Bipolar Syndrome is the most important thing to consider in this case (Steve-O). When you don't threat yourself (and many refuse or hate the medication because they lose their phenomenal natural "UP"... even if they have to deal with their "DOWN"... they don't like the standard life which seems boring and unnatural to them). Add the alcool to that and the depression is accelerated and 2x more important.
Add cocaine. Ouch!
Add easy money. Ouch! (bipolar people have problems dealing with money)
Add fake respect. Ouch!
