I would like your opinion on the following...

    As I was chatting a guy said to me;
What do you think about a domainname with
    .sex ?
I said sounds good; but how can I get it?
so he pointed me to www.dotsex.com.
You guys ever heart about it?
    Shall I claim some domainnames?
Can it even be realized? .sex?

Really want your opinion on this!

well i had thought .sex or .xxx or .adult whatever it was, was considered and they didn't do it instead only doing .info, .biz, .art, and i think a few others.

I believe that surfers have to install a browser plugin to be able to visit those 'extra-TLD' domains. They are not official, but some % of the surfers must be able to visit them. Don't think it's worth it, though...

It's a scam - plain and simple. There is more than one company selling the same domain name. Any domains you buy from them will never work as intended. NEVER. I will sell you as many .sex names you want for $5.00.

When I remember it right, you must change your browser settings to reach one of these new domains. But when you do this, you can not reach the "old" domains.
I doubt that an one-hand-surfer will do this. Takes to much time, and most surfer don't know even anything about settings in their browser. (3 or 4 months after I got my internet access I heard, that there is something like java-script and that I can disable it)

It's a change in network properties to your dns resolution for your isp.

While you can still see the .coms, etc, it is conceivably possible that these sites who have these names could hijack your dns to any site on the web and show you what they wanted to see -- one reason that this will never take off as a standard.

Further, with multiple companies selling these extensions, the one that you use for dns is the one that you will be able to see.

Don't know if any of you remember Robin Nixon -- used to own Sexshare -- but he had the originals tld scheme -- pick any .extension be it .sports, .map, .sex, .whatever and register it -- he probably had better distribution than anyone else -- Sexshare gets alot of traffic and there was a tiny little .exe file that changed the dns settings for you in it -- still tanked tho...

Woohoo, what an idea. Make an activex dns setting changer script, just like the homepage one and direct the surfers to your sponsors whenever they try to access anything. cool

.sex domains require a plugin on the visitor's browser. It sucks. at least for now, but maybe in future versions of our browsers they will be "native" extensions.
