99.9% of the time you wouldn't need to call them.
But if you happen to set off a red flag somehow in their fraud detection, it would come in handy. This happened to me when I first started using them. I purchased about 6 or 7 adult domains all on one day, so this must have looked suspicious to them.
Was a pain in the ass for me because once you trigger their fraud system, the only way you can get your account unlocked is to have them call you at home on the number you have listed in the whois. I never seemed to be home when they called so this went on for a week, and they couldn't arrange a specific time to make the call. They wouldn't let me call them, I had to be home when they called me or they wouldn't unfreeze the account.
Eventually I ended up having to email them a scan of my credit card and driver's license. Would have been much easier if I could have just called them on the phone.
