    Easy with the "Tard" and "Retard" coments

    This isn't easy for me to say, just wanted to chime in and say I've been a member here for a long time, but forgot my password and emailed Lensman several times then created another account.

    I don't post much. But I'd like to request people ease up on the "Retard" "Tard" etc. comments, my daughter is 4 years old and she's mentally challenged, and it bothers me to see this kind of attitude here, even knowing that it's GFY.

    BTW, the pictrues of retarded kids is very mean, IMHO.

    It would be appreciated.

To me, "mentally challenged" is the ridiculous term. When will people learn it's the INTENT behind the word which is really offensive, not the term itself. (Take the current usage of the word "nigga" for example.)

                                                                                                                  heh... as much as you'd like everyone to stop using those terms, it won't happen. and reading those words is probably hard, but as a parent you need to be strong and learn to understand the context that is behind most of those remarks. usually i'll call people gay or queer, but i'm not referring to their sexuality. when people call someone a retard, in most cases they mean the person said something stupid or acted annoying n' what not. hardly do people sincerely believe a person is mentally handicapped when they throw that slang around.

                                                                                                                  so with that said, the only thing that should matter to you is that you know your kid and the people who use those terms don't. if you can practice understanding that concept, then reading / hearing those remarks won't bother you much at all.
