There were definetely some lame parts in the movie, but that's to be expected these days. Overall though, the movie was awesome and if you don't like it, you must be a communist.

Are you kidding me? You ever read Herodotus? This is one of the greatest stories in history. A few hundred free men laid down their lives to hold up the entire Persian army at the pass. Their sacrifice gave the Athenians and Spartans time to set up the victory at Salamis; which in the end saved western civilization. As far as women, Gorgo's appearance as a womam before the Spartan court is legendary and out of character for contemporary greek city states. The strength of Spartan women in the pages of Herodotus later agitated Aristotle enough to write about it.

The story has a fantastic plot and Herodotus is a master story-teller.

Amazing movie - and since it was based on Frank Miller's Comic which was a single series - there will not be a Part 2. But Snyder the director is doing another comic book movie now - Watchmen

All that stuff *is* in the movie. Xerxes is presented and dramatized as a tyrant. The Greeks are freemen who don't understand the Persian ways. Gorgo appears before the Spartan court. Some hundreds of men fought the Persian Army for a few days at Thermopylae which lead to the eventual Persian defeat.

My point about reading Herodotus (and commentaries on Herodotus) is that it helps to understand the perspective of the movie. But either way, it *is* there.
